Campaign Worn A-3 Frogskin Cap
In the Northern Mariannas on the island of Saipan the fighting was ferocious. Columns of Marines passed each other on opposites sides of dirt tracks, some heading to the frontlines, others limping back to rest and resupply.
I’ve seen this image so many times, in movies and in original images and I was always taken back by the juxtaposition of the two different sides of the road, one marching with trepidation but pep, the other a noiseless shuffle and thousand yard stare. The other thing apparent was uniforms and gear, nothing ever fresh, all just mud caked and tattered.
Inspired by the vividness of these images I’ve set about working with Troy O’Shea again, this time to rework our Frogskin Camo caps into a ‘Campaign Worn’ concept, that allows every cap to bare its battle scars with pride. There’s nothing pristine about these caps, I’ve found the hardest battle worn shelter-half ever and re-engineered it into a cover that looks as if it’s just completed an arduous mission against fortified positions. Patched, tattered and frayed, dozens of minor stitch repairs and faded to perfection, this shelter half has seen some use. Available as a limited release this is a cap styled in our awesome A-3 silhouette , complete with all cotton taping and sweatband as well as a visor lined with three layers of 25oz natural canvas that allows for a completely customized styling.
The ‘Campaign Worn’ A-3 is a complete work that’s made exclusively by Troy, from the hand cutting of the pattern pieces to the construction using his 1929 Singer machine, every detail and choice deliberate. You’ll not find a better example of the craft anywhere, anything else of course is, well, just a cap!
* Each cap is completely different and as such please choose you preference from the photos below.
