1942 when Alaska’s frontier of the Aleutian Islands were threatened and occupied, an assorted group of rugged Alaskans were chosen to form a top-secret commando-type organization that played a significant role in World War II.
The 1st Alaskan Combat Intelligence platoon, was a 65 man unit in a story that every Alaskan should know.
Dubbed “Castner’s Cutthroats,” after their Commander Col. Lawrence Castner, these men became known as Alaska Scouts. They were carefully chosen to survive in the tough wilderness conditions and were hand picked for their skills. Native Aleuts and Eskimos, sourdough prospectors, hunters trappers and fishermen, guides, a bush pilot and even a professor from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, formed up group.
Independent and rugged the Alaskan Scouts undermined enemy activity, reconnoitred and planned landing zones for future amphibious missions, suppressed further advancement, sabotaged and harassed and prepared the area of operations for the eventual American counter attack.
On the back of such a rip roaring story, the Papa Nui Cap Company joins forces with the Original Alaskan Outfitters, C.C Filson of Seattle, Washington to bring you an awesome collaboration that explores a military inspired capsule that focuses on the story of the Alaskan Scouts.
