Given my career history it’s only natural that I come at my new Type 1 Marine Battle Jacket with reference to my background in denim. Tasked by the USMC Quartermaster with providing Leathernecks with a shorten battle jacket to add to their field utilities, I was inspired by the concept of a battle version of the Vandergrift Jacket, a shorten waist length garment that gained popularity post Guadalcanal and custom tailored on RnR in Melbourne Australia around 1942. Using a popular shilouette from the early 40’s I based this jacket around a 506XX single pocket indigo style but completely reimagined it in Olive Drab HBT and replaced the less than function small open chest pocket with the much larger pocket pulled from the P-44 Utility jacket.
I’ve also incorporated a T-back panel at the rear, again with reference to the original 506 which featured this detail as a result of production efficiencies on sizes 46” and above. Blackened donut buttons and a distinct gyrene appearance makes this jacket a practical and awesome acquisition in a theatre where the climate dictatesoutfitting first and foremost. Worn back with the Papa’s battle beach togs we arrive at tropical styling at its most rugged and practical,ensuring uncontested control of coastal terrains.

More Accurate Than You Think
Huge fan of Papa's "U.S. Armed Forces Fly Fishing Club" paraphernalia items (patches and buttons). Not just because I fly fish but because these items directly link to an actual informal fly fishing club started by my Area IV Commander at Camp Walker in Daegu, Republic of Korea back in 2007. These patches (and buttons) precisely hit the nostalgia "feels" for me from that time period. And, the sewing & lettering on the the patches precisely mimics the style used then by Korean merchants who had side hustles making custom military patches and sewing for U.S. Forces Korea personnel garrisoned on the Peninsula.

Easily the best hat I have ever worn
I lucked out and found one second hand. Never heard of the brand, but I like duck camo, so I took a chance.
Man, I put this hat on and was blown away. So comfortable, such high quality and such a slick fit.

I’ve been wearing Papa Nui hats for years, from the Denim Devastator to my most recent purchases, and nothing quite compares to the quality, craftsmanship, and enjoyment I get from wearing them.
Another outstanding hat from PN. Super light cotton poplin, flawless stitching and a striking colour. The XL 61-62 cm size is accurate - comfortable with a touch of room for me (61 cm) so don't hesitate if you have a big melon.
Really loving the new Denim **** Cat Cap - the lighter weight denim is great for summer but the peak is still thick enough to hold it's shape. Great colour too.
