In the Summer of ‘69, I was on the beach at Vin Drin Dop, taking up residence in a former VC post that had been cleaned out by the 1/9 in a early morning Huey raid. I set up a shaping bay and started a small concession and called it , Victor Charlie Surfboards Surplus and Supply. Visiting R’n’R personnel could rent a board or buy some surf trunks. Not just ordinary trunks, but the Papa’s Nui Nalu’s.
Taking inspiration from a pair of OG-107’s, I rejigged the pattern into shorts and then contacted Militaria 1911 to supply the fabric.
Militaria 1911’s Daichi Nagisa is the worlds leading manufacturer of Tiger Stripe Fabrics. An obsession of his that has reproduced not only thread count but also period dye methods obtained from an original late 1960's pair of Gold Tiger Stripe trousers acquired many years ago.
The Nui Nalu’s are a classic beach short to be worn in or out of the water, featuring drainage eyelets to empty the pocket bags or excess moisture. 100% cotton and made exclusively in Japan by Militaria 1911 these shorts are a premium addition to your beach kit and come fully endorsed by the Papa, Lance Johnson and Col.Kilgore.
Sizing guide:
These shorts are constructed with side tabs so they can be adjusted by minimum 2” in the waist if required or preferred.
It's really hard to find swim trunks made of natural fibers that perform well. These are the best I've ever found. Hats off to you!

Amongst the best togs I own. Virtually perfect in every way--and the length is great (too long if anything!). I don't understand the fear around a shorter inseam. I want shorts, not culottes! The fabric is bonkers good quality; plush and robust simultaneous. Magic. Working up the chin to get a second pair. 11/10. Would recommend.
Im wearing mine now!

Great shorts but…
The design and quality are amazing. The only reason why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish the legs were longer by 2 inches….
Jean baby, let them all hang out!!

From the Atoll to Me – An Unforgettable Journey
Meeting the Papa Nui cap changed my life once and for all — nothing will ever be the same again. Papa is truly unique in his philosophy, in the quality of what he creates, and in the heart he puts into every piece.
Many thanks,

The Real Deal.
What can be said that hasn't been said already. Papa airdropped this beaut and managed to get my mits on it before the CO noticed. The Shinki horsehide ain't a joke neither. You could go for a bimble through the jungle, get caught in a downpour, and this thing would probably come out looking better than you. It's stiff mind, took a bit of hard yakka to break it in, but now it fits like it was made for my scone. It's a civvy bit of kit, make no mistake. The Sergeant Major gets a bit cross-eyed when he sees it, thinks it's not uniform. But listen, when you're stuck in a foxhole and the rain's bucketing down, this leather lid is a bloody sight better than a piece of wet wool.
It's a fair dinkum bonzer bit of gear. If you can get one, get one. Just keep it out of sight of the brass.
