Papa Nui is the Axis Buster!

On every front Papa Nui is on the job, lending a hand to Uncle Sam.

When contracted by the War Production Authority to produce a work shirt for our Sailors in forest green, our Seabees and our Marines, the Papa was quick to the task. Referencing early 1942 ‘Reliance’, detailing  and adding a healthy dose of creative licence our Atoll’s golden cavalier created a chambray shirt of considerable merit. Made in the finest facilities of the Far East under the watchful eye of the production maestro John Lofgren, the Beach Head shirt features heavy duty specifications, triple stitched felled seams, double thick ventilated arm holes, chrysanthemum stitch ventilated yoke holes and indestructible  buttons, details that put this shirt right on the job , right in the fight!  With its oversized utility pocket and sweat resistant ‘Luckies’ pocket, the Beach Head shirt is the choice of our armed services.

Available in Japanese selvedge Indigo Chambray and custom coloured Sea Green Chambray, the Papa Nui Beach Head shirt is ready now in our PX store:

* For best results on the Beach Head chambray Papa Nui suggests a quick round with the washing machine and dryer before wearing for optimum fit and styling.

*Personal insight from the Papa: “I love vintage chambray and especially so because of the bizarre pocket combinations of early 20th century workwear, which I’ve incorporated into this design. Practicality and functionality is a whole other thing though, and so what I’ve chosen to do with mine is to unpick the pencil stitching to allow for more room in the chest pocket. The bar tack is left in place so it’ll still hold a pencil but the pocket bag will be freed up. ( bartack can also be removed carefully with a scalpel for optimum functionality) As for the cigarette pocket, if you’re a soft pack smoker ( Luckies preferably or the fabulous Japanese Hi Lites) then great, if not, well then I got nothing for you other than enjoy the detailing”.

and regret not buying the sea green as well - also nice slim fit - i usually have problems here with too much fabric going out on the sides but not this one !!!!!

You can never have too many chambray shirts

One of the best- colour, detail and fit perfect

Thanks Adam,
I looked at that fabric for about 4 years imagining it as a work shirt. I’m glad you loved it.

So...gettin' a little chilly here in Tennessee, so I have to put this one away till Spring (sadly). But I've been put it through the paces over the last month or so...and a big thumbs up. After a few launderings, my ordered (L) fits my 6'0" 175' lbs., 42R frame very well with a little room to spare; which is what I like in a warmer weather shirt. (And thanks John, for not designing this one with a 'chin-strap'... I don't know about others, but I find that moderately...annoying.) Of course PN quality...Japanese, blah, blah, blah. As for the coloring...yeah, at first glance, it's more grey than green, but in different lighting...it definitely is sea foam, green-ish. I totally dig it, and no one else is wearing a shirt with this hue. It's a compliment magnet. Hold on...maybe I won't put this away just yet...a vintage white t-shirt underneath, and throw on the Marine Aviator Jacket over this shirt...and we're all set for fall!

Hey Bill,
Thanks for this. I deliberated over the chinstrap too and decided it had to go. Giggle and I are wearing ours constantly as an afternoon summer shirt when the sea breeze gets up. Come winter it layers perfectly under a heavier shirt. There’s nothing like a great chambray.

Unfortunately, the small I ordered fits like a large. It must be a US small. Also, the sea green colour definitely looks grey. Other than fit and colour, I do like the design and quality.

That’s a shame Martin as I did add a detailed size spec on the webstore to view and made numerous references that I was wearing a small in all my photos. I’m only a 38” chest so a small seems a natural fit for me to wear. As I’m always available to contact please take the time to ask as many questions as you need about any detail and I can help answer and assuage your concerns next time.
