One by one the crooked wing ‘birds’, circled Henderson Field and then when it’s turn came, banked steeply to come drifting down to the runway to land.
Stepping down from his Corsair, a Marine pilot resplendent in a camouflaged flight jacket, stood for a moment to regain his land legs and then slowly held up his gloved hand with all five fingers up, signalling to the congregated ground personnel that he had downed five ‘meatballs’ in that last sortie and that he was now an instant Ace.

I am a solid large - 5’11” and 195 lbs, 42” chest, and this thing barely zippers - see pic.
The quality is good, not great - a lot of loose threads inside. I am used to RRL though.
The zipper is tough to catch and fights when pulled, too.
That’s fair Eric,
Being an original pilots jacket the pattern is lean in its styling presumably because you don’t want excess fabric in the cockpit. The zippers are Japanese vintage replicas and so they’re cotton taped. There’s always of element of shrinkage in the tape therefore when the garments are pre washed, this causes the puckering and contributes to the ‘biting’ when pulling the zip up or down. Loose threads? Let’s throw that in with Covid and the war in the Ukraine, that seems to be the catch all excuse these days. Thank you for taking the time to fill this out.
Just a wonderful jacket. Listen to John! A proper fit starts in the shoulders.
Awesome i love the fit of mine as well.
Thank you for reaching out for fit recommendations.
Marine aviators jacket
I asked Papa a few years if he was going to make this jacket.in the end he des it.She is just perfect in HBT frogskin, and fit le well.
Thanks Jean, sometimes these things are a long process but we’ll worth the wait!
Great design. Quality construction. Perfect fit - I’m a 44 long and the XL fits like it was tailored for me. This will definitely be my go-to jacket this fall.
So glad the fit was spot on Patrick, those vintage patterns tend to be lean in the body but I guess climbing in and out of your Corsair, you can’t be getting hooked up by too much fabric.
You know when you don that 'something special'...a favorite pair of jeans, or boots or maybe that vintage Omega...it just has that 'je ne sais quoi' - and makes you smile. This jacket has that sort of feel...a 'devil may care' panache. Paired with the Papa's South Pacific Cap in Battalion Blue or the 38 Parallel Red Wool Aviator's Cap...forget about it!
True to size; I'm a 42R and the (L) fits as if tailored (nice and trim about the waist) and of course, top notch quality materials and Japanese workmanship. How'd we ever beat these guys back in '45? Oh yeah...now I remember.
Thanks William this is a standout for sure!
